7. Thor: The Dark World

Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor took over the THOR franchise for the sequel, and proved to be the perfect choice to make the world of Asgard feel more like a real place than a CGI backdrop.

Picking up after the events of Avengers Assemble, Thor: The Dark World smartly gave Loki a starring role, and his story would end up being as interesting as that of the lead character’s. This movie helped to flesh out Thor and his relationship with Jane and his family, while placing it in London led to it having a much fresher feel than many other superhero movies.

Malekith was a pretty weak villain, though the murder of Thor’s mother and the superb final battle helped him stand out somewhat, especially with Christopher Eccleston in the role. This was a solid sequel which improved on the first movie in many ways, and the third will hopefully be the best yet, especially after that fantastic cliffhanger ending.
