Young director MJ Delaney makes her feature directorial debut with the British comedy, led by the ever-brilliant Sheridan Smith, who has very much been deservedly on the rise in recent years.
And after a long wait, the first teaser trailer has finally landed online.
A ribald, rowdy exposé of what goes on behind the closed doors of the ladies’ toilets, Powder Room is outrageously funny. Pulling back the curtain on a world that remains a mystery to men and is delightfully familiar to women, it has broad appeal and is surprisingly full of heart. Featuring a wide array of weird and wonderful characters, from novice teenaged party girls, to seasoned ravers this is a no-holds-barred look at women’s friendships, rivalries and romances in all their infinite variety.
Smith is joined by a great cast, led by Jaime Winstone (Kidulthood, Elfie Hopkins), Kate Nash (who made her acting debut in Greetings from Tim Buckley), and Oona Chaplin (The Hour, Game of Thrones).
Delaney is directing from a script penned by Rachel Hirons, based on the original stage play Hirons wrote with Jennifer Davies, Amirah Garba, Stephanie Jay, Stef O’Driscoll, Amy Revelle, Natasha Sparkes, and Emily Wallis.
Fake Club serve as the house band for the movie. And to top it all off, the BAFTA-winning Damian Jones (The Iron Lady, Kidulthood) serves as producer.
This first teaser trailer does a great job of giving you a taste without giving anything away, much like the brilliant first teaser trailer for Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring, which featured almost no dialogue and plenty of partying. And both are definitely movies worth your attention this year.
No word yet on exactly when we can look forward to seeing Powder Room in cinemas, but we’re hoping for a release later this summer. Judging by this first teaser trailer, the film has a brilliant feel to it perfect for the summer season.
