Lil-Dipper-and-Dusty-in-Planes-Fire-and-RescueAfter spinning off the Cars franchise to great success last year, DisneyToon Studios are returning to cinemas this summer with Planes: Fire and Rescue.

The original Planes was of course initially expected to be a straight-to-DVD feature, as is typical with DisneyToon Studios’ output, but a late decision from Disney switched gears to give the film a theatrical release, and going one step further to announce Planes: Fire and Rescue before the film had even hit cinemas.

With its July release date on the horizon, the first full-length trailer has now debuted over on Yahoo Movies.

“Planes: Fire & Rescue” features a quirky crew of elite firefighting aircraft devoted to protecting historic Piston Peak National Park from a raging wildfire. When world famous air racer Dusty (voice of Cook) learns that his engine is damaged and he may never race again, he must shift gears and is launched into the world of wildfire air attack. Dusty joins forces with veteran fire and rescue helicopter Blade Ranger and his courageous air attack team, including spirited super scooper Lil’ Dipper (voice of Bowen), heavy-lift helicopter Windlifter, ex-military transport Cabbie and a lively bunch of brave all-terrain vehicles known as The Smokejumpers. Together, the fearless team battles a massive wildfire, and Dusty learns what it takes to become a true hero.

Dane Cook returns to lead the voice cast, reprising his role as Dusty, with Julie Bowen starring opposite him this time around as Li’l’ Dipper, and Bobs Gannaway (Secret of the Wings) directing.

Planes: Fire and Rescue will be released in 3D in the US on July 18th, arriving a little later in the UK on 8th August. This first full trailer is every bit as cheesy as you’d expect, promising an animated, family-friendly adventure movie.
