Evangeline Lilly

Various outlets have confirmed that Lost and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug star Evangeline Lilly is in talks for the lead female role in Marvel Studios and Edgar Wright’s upcoming Ant-Man movie.

Who will she be playing? That hasn’t been revealed, although Variety claims to have heard that she’ll be Hank Pym’s (Michael Douglas) daughter and a love interest for Scott Lang (Paul Rudd). As a result, common sense says that Wright is shaking things up from the comic books and making Janet Van Dyne/The Wasp Pym’s daughter rather than his wife. The fact that THR adds that “it is not intended to be a one-off appearance” is another indication that we’re not talking about a newly-created character, especially as The Wasp was included in Joss Whedon’s early draft of The Avengers.

In the comics, Pym and Lang are much closer in age, but it appears as if this movie will see the former portrayed as being Ant-Man in the ’60s and ’70s before Rudd’s character steals his suit and shrinking formula decades later in a bid to pull off a heist and save his daughter’s life with the proceeds.

Evangeline Lilly gained fame through Lost, later taking on a role in Real Steel and more recently gaining acclaim for playing the original character Tauriel in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy.
