The first reviews for Pixar’s Brave are out, and they are looking very good. Jamie caught the film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival – you can read his review here – and has it pegged as the best animated film of the year, which is all I need to know.

You had me at ‘Pixar’.

Yahoo Movies and Apple have debuted a new clip and parody commercial for the film, respectively, giving us a look at the film’s adorable triplets and the summer games in the world of Brave.

“Brave is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida (Kelly Macdonald) is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida’s quest — and serving as comic relief — are the kingdom’s three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), the surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), and the disagreeable Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane).”

Co-directed by Mark Andrews (head of story on The Incredibles) and Brenda Chapman (The Prince of Egypt), the film features a strong voice cast headed up by Kelly Macdonald, Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Julie Walters, Robbie Coltrane, Kevin McKidd, and Craig Ferguson.

Brave will be released in the US in ten days’ time on 22nd June, followed by a little later this summer in the UK on 17th August. Whilst you wait, the new clips for your viewing pleasure.
