After writing and directing the first incredibly successful instalment of The LEGO Movie franchise, it has been confirmed that Phil Lord and Chris Miller will return to pen the sequel loosely dated for a 2018 release.

It was originally being eyed for a May 26th, 2017 debut with Chris McKay taking over directing duties, but a LEGO Batman spin-off has taken that date and he’s working on that instead of the sequel. There’s no word on whether Lord and Miller will direct, but the delay and the fact that they’re writing could be a good sign!

The movie focusing on the DC Comics character was written by written by Seth Grahame-Smith and will feature the return of Will Arnett as Batman after his well-received turn in The LEGO Movie this year.

The first movie grossed over $468 million worldwide so you have to imagine that Warner Bros. are keen to get them back in the director’s chairs for the sequel. Dan Lin and Roy Lee are producing with Lord & Miller, and Jill Wilfert, Matt Ashton, Chris McKay and Kara Lord Piersimoni are serving as executive producers.

The duo have a very busy schedule, so whether they can actually fit The LEGO Movie sequel in remains to be seen. They’re no strangers to success of course after 22 Jump Street earned over $325 million on a $50 million budget. The LEGO Movie 2 is expected sometime in 2018, but Warner Bros. have yet to confirm.
