It was revealed last year (courtesy of the “Sony Hack”) that 22 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were plotting with Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill to enlist Schmidt and Jenko in the Men in Black.

At the time, no one could quite believe the news despite the fact that we saw the emails to prove it! If handled properly – which you can imagine would be the case in the hands of Lord and Miller – the mashup could be a work of genius, or it could end up being one of the silliest and ill-advised crossovers to date.

Surprisingly, the directing duo had no issues with confirming that a Jump Street/Men in Black crossover could still be in the works at Sony Pictures during a recent interview, as Lord was quick to reveal that: “Nothing’s changed. It’s still a crazy idea, and we only do things that seem like they’re going to be terrible.”

“We’re really focussing on what’s a great story for Schmidt and Jenko and how to tell the next chapter in their lives,” the writer/director added. “And perhaps use creatures from another world at the same time.”

As for whether or not we might end up seeing the bumbling cops team-up with Agent J (Will Smith) and Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones), Lord said that’s still being discussed, with Miller making it clear that it’s still very much early days for this project and any number of others they’ve been linked to. “We’re developing a lot of things, you know. And they may or may not all happen, but that’s how the business works.”
