The new look delves straight into an aspiring rapper Patricia DomBrowski’s, aka Patti Cake$, struggles in her quest for lyrical domination. Battling constant put downs from her own bitter mother to coming up against a bullying rapper who thinks it’s clever using her weight as the basis for his scathing rap battle attempt. Patti surrounds herself with supportive friends and her hip yet foul-mouthed grandmother to make some truly original music that surprises her most harsh critics.

This edgy, heartfelt coming-of-age film is the feature film debut of Music director Geremy Jasper – he also penned the script – who has directed music videos for the likes of Florence and the Machine and Selena Gomez. Australian native Danielle MacDonald takes the lead as Patti with Cathy Moriarty playing her grandmother, her close knit friends are played by Siddharth Dhananjay as Jheri and Mamoudou Athie as Basterd and Bridget Everett plays her unforgiving mother.

PATTI CAKE$ introduces Australian native Danielle Macdonald in a breakout role, as aspiring rapper Patricia Dombrowski, a.k.a. Killa P, a.k.a. Patti Cake$. Fighting an unlikely quest for glory in her downtrodden hometown in Jersey where her life is falling apart, Patti tries to reach the big time in the hip hop scene with original and affecting music. Cheered on by her grandmother (Cathy Moriarty) and only friends, Jheri (Siddharth Dhananjay) and Basterd (Mamoudou Athie), Patti also shoulders her mother’s (Bridget Everett) heartaches and misfortunes.
