During an interview with Nerdist, DeKnight explained that if the numbers are good enough with Uprising it will be the catalyst for the third movie and how its ending will take us into a whole new Universe, trying to follow in the footsteps of the big hitters as the Star Trek and Star Wars sagas.

“I’m certainly hoping so. I think you’ll definitely probably get more comics. The plan was always to use this movie as a launching pad. If enough people show up to this, we’ve already talked about the plot of the third movie, and how the end of the third movie would expand the universe to a Star Wars/Star Trek-style [franchise] where you can go in many, many different directions. You can go main canon, you can go spin-offs, you can go one-offs. Yeah, that’s the plan. And I would love to see an animated TV show based on this.”

Uprising is the follow-up to Guillermo Del Toro’s 2014 sci-fi outing which only made up its box office receipts from the International market.  In Uprising, which is Based on the story by Del Toro, It has been ten years since the Battle of the Breach and the oceans are still, but restless. Vindicated by the victory at the Breach, the Jaeger program has evolved into the most powerful global defence force in human history. The PPDC now calls upon the best and brightest to rise up and become the next generation of heroes when the Kaiju threat returns.

Pacific Rim: Uprising stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Zhang Jin, Cailee Spaeny, and Jing Tian and will be in cinemas from February 2018.
