Pacific-Rim-BannerHitting theatres in just over two months, Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim has definitely been living up to the hype, based on what we’ve seen from the film so far.

Del Toro recently took some awesome new footage to WonderCon, and after a brilliant reaction from conventiongoers and demands to see it online, Warner Bros. debuted the WonderCon trailer online this week. And, needless to say, the blockbuster continues to look awesome.

Following on from that great new footage, a new banner for the film has debuted online, teasing still more of the epic scale we can expect to unfold on the big screen this July.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes–a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)–who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Rob Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman take the lead for what promises to be one of the best films of the year.

And Del Toro is directing from a script he co-wrote with Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans).

We’ve already heard early talk of a sequel for Pacific Rim, which suggests del Toro and Waner Bros. must be feeling pretty good about what they’re bringing to the summer audiences in two and a half months’ time.

Pacific Rim will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on July 12th in the US and UK. Whilst we count down the days, here’s the awesome new banner, which you can click through to enlarge.
