The world of cinema can breathe a collective sigh of relief again as it appears that P. T Anderson’s new feature, currently titled The Master, will begin shooting next month.

Cigarettes & Red Vines, a well-respected fan site of the director (named after a song by Anderson muse, Aimee Mann), has managed to get first-hand scoop from the director himself.

Thought to be a thinly-veiled account of the rise of Scientologist founder L. Ron Hubbard, (there’s a more in-depth look at an early draft of the script via The Playlist) the film stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as the leader of a religious cult in American during the mid-50’s, alongside Reese Witherspoon as his wife.

Glad to see Anderson hasn’t left it too long since his last endeavour (the astounding There Will Be Blood), and with the recently lauded Jeremy Renner also on board, this is shaping up to be an interesting project, although I’m not sure what Magnolia co-star and Scientology spokesperson Tom Cruise will have to say about it!
