Silver Linings Playbook PosterComing out of Toronto with very strong Oscar buzz as we head into the awards season, David O. Russell (The Fighter) returns with Silver Linings Playbook, being touted by plenty of critics as one of the year’s best films.

Led by Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, both of whom are absolutely flawless here, we caught four TV spots for the film last week, and with The Weinstein Company giving it a limited release one week ahead of schedule, due to the very promising buzz surrounding it, we’ve got another thirty-second spot to share.

“Pat Solatano has lost everything — his house, his job, and his wife. He now finds himself living back with his mother and father after spending eight months is a state institution on a plea bargain. Pat is determined to rebuild his life, remain positive and reunite with his wife, despite the challenging circumstances of their separation. All Pat’s parents want is for him to get back on his feet – and to share their family’s obsession with the Philadelphia Eagles football team. When Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own, things get complicated. Tiffany offers to help Pat reconnect with his wife, but only if he’ll do something very important for her in return. As their deal plays out, an unexpected bond begins to form between them, and silver linings appear in both of their lives.”

Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver, Chris Tucker, John Ortiz, Julia Stiles, Shea Whigham, and Anupam Kher complete the cast nicely, with Russell directing from his own script, having adapted the original novel, The Silver Linings Playbook, by Matthew Quick.

I saw the film last month at the BFI London Film Festival, where it was selected as the Surprise Film (and what an excellent surprise it was), and thought it was superb, and am really looking forward to seeing it again later this month.

Silver Linings Playbook will be getting a limited release in the US this Friday, 16th November, before opening wide in the UK and US next Wednesday, 21st November, just in time for Thanksgiving. I can’t wait, and highly recommend that you seek it out as soon as it arrives in a theatre near you.
