There are a lot of great superhero movies coming out this year, but by far the most interesting comic book adaptation is the one which is set to focus on a team of supervillains!

Directed by David Ayer, the Suicide Squad cast includes Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jared Leto (The Joker), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Karen Fukuhara (Katana), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), and a number of others.

Like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad is responsible for launching DC’s Cinematic Universe, and the Fury director had this to say about bringing these baddies to the big screen. “We all need good guys and everything — yay, good guys — but at the end of the day, they’re kinda boring. They’re always going to do the right thing. When you’re dealing with the baddies, it’s easy to get ahead of the audience and invert expectations.”

Of course, there will be a heroic presence of sorts in Suicide Squad as Batman has been spotted in both set photos and the Comic-Con trailer, and well, it sounds like he’ll have an action-packed role in the movie! “We made him fight,” Ayer laughs. “He’s awesome (as Batman). You really sense that but for the grace of God he himself would be doing some really foul stuff out in the world.” Ben Affleck meanwhile is also positive about the role.

“It felt like I have such a cool cousin. This thing that is so awesome is somehow related to me, and that was really exciting because it started to feel like a constellation of things, and I’ve never had that feeling.” Suicide Squad is currently set to be released on August 8th.
