Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables is just a few months away from its big screen release, and the anticipation couldn’t be higher.

We saw a fascinating extend behind-the-scenes featurette last month, and just last night we got a brilliant new character poster for Hugh Jackman’s Jean Valjean. And to follow it, we now have the new character poster of Russell Crowe as Javert.

“Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.”

Jackman and Crowe lead the fantastic cast alongside Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried, with terrific support coming from Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Barks, and Helena Bonham Carter, with Isabelle Allen starring as the young Cosette.

Hooper, following his Oscar-winning film, The King’s Speech, is directing from a script by William Nicholson (Gladiator, Shadowlands), who adapts the original classic novel of the same name by Victor Hugo and the world-famous stage musical.

Les Misérables will be released in the US on Christmas Day, in perfect position in the height of the coming awards season. Here in the UK, it will be released on 11th January in the New Year, a date which really can’t come fast enough. This has the potential to be one of the best films in recent memory, and I can’t wait to see it unfold. For now, here’s the new character poster, which you can click to enlarge.
