Pixar return to the big screen this summer bringing us Brave, a Scotland-set tale of a princess dreaming of becoming more than her royal parents have in mind for her.

We’ve seen plenty of brilliant things from the film so far, and a fun little featurette, entitled ‘Freedom Broch!’, has debuted over at Apple, showcasing All Your Favourite Scottish Tunes of the Ages.

If you’re reading this in the US, you’ve got exactly one month to go until its release, so make sure you catch it in theatres before the superhero blockbusters roll out in style come July.

Brave is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida (Kelly Macdonald) is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida’s quest — and serving as comic relief — are the kingdom’s three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), the surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), and the disagreeable Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane).”

Co-directed by Mark Andrews (head of story on The Incredibles) and Brenda Chapman (The Prince of Egypt), the film features a great voice cast that includes the likes of Kelly Macdonald, Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Julie Walters, Robbie Coltrane, Kevin McKidd, and Craig Ferguson.

Mark Andrews’ credit on The Incredibles alone is enough to make me want to go see this. And as if that wasn’t enough, the Oscar-nominated short La Luna will be attached before it – and we all know that Pixar are the best when it comes to animated shorts.

Brave will be released in the US next month on 22nd June, before coming to the UK a little later in the summer on 17th August. Here’s the new featurette for your viewing pleasure, which you can watch in HD over at Apple.
