The Avengers is already one of the most anticipated films of the year, and all the things we’ve seen from Joss Whedon’s entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been brilliant so far, with the most substantial looks being the ridiculously cool first trailer and the more recent Super Bowl TV spot that was undeniably cool.

We’ve now got a new image to share with you, scanned from the upcoming issue of Empire via ComicBookMovie, in which we get to see Captain America, Hawkeye, and Black Widow looking like they really mean business.

Whedon is directing from his own script, and of course all of our favourite superhero cast from the Marvel Universe will be reprising their roles from recent years, including Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr., with Paul Bettany returning as JARVIS), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo, taking over from Edward Norton), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg), Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and Loki (Tom Hiddleston).

Plot details are being kept pretty much under wraps for the time being, with the official synopsis staying fairly vague, which is totally fine by me. I already know I want to see it, and nothing’s going to persuade me otherwise!

“Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures Marvel’s The Avengers–the super hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.”

The Avengers will be released in 2D and 3D on 27th April here in the UK, before heading across the Atlantic to the US on 4th May. It’s going to be one hell of a ride. For now, this new image is still in scanned form so the quality’s not the best, but you can be sure we’ll bring you it in hi-res as soon as it lands.
