The last things of we saw for one of George Clooney’s next projects, The Descendants, was back in May when we got a fantastic first poster followed by the film’s first trailer.

The Playlist have got a new clip from the film ahead of its screening at Toronto International Film Festival this weekend, before we get it at the BFI London Film Festival next month.

The Descendants is directed and co-written by Academy Award-winning Alexander Payne (Sideways, About Schmidt), with Nat Faxon and Jim Rash co-writing the project with him, based on a novel by Kaui Hart Hemmings. And along with Clooney, the film also boasts Judy Greer (TV’s Arrested Development and Archer), Matthew Lillard (Scream 3), Beau Bridges (Max Payne), and Robert Forster (Jackie Brown, TV’s Heroes) among its cast.

“Synopsis: From Alexander Payne, the creator of the Oscar-winning SIDEWAYS, set in Hawaii, THE DESCENDANTS is a sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic journey for Matt King (George Clooney) an indifferent husband and father of two girls, who is forced to re-examine his past and embrace his future when his wife suffers a boating accident off of Waikiki. The event leads to a rapprochement with his young daughters while Matt wrestles with a decision to sell the family’s land handed down from Hawaiian royalty and missionaries.”

This new clip sees Clooney meeting his daughter’s boyfriend for the first time, and naturally being completely unenthused and unamused as he does so. It makes for brilliant watching, as the boyfriend immediately comes in happy-as-larry for an introductory hug that Clooney’s King just isn’t in the mood for at all. If you’re lucky enough to be going to the London Film Festival next month then you’ve not got long to wait to see what’s sure to be a great film from Payne. The rest of us will have to wait until 20th January for its release, but it does look like it will be worth the wait. Without further ado, here’s the new clip. Enjoy.
