We got a really promising first trailer for Paolo Sorrentino’s This Must Be The Place, led by the brilliant Sean Penn, back in the summer last year, and it was a terrific first look at what promises to be a thoroughly different film in comparison to many heading to our cinemas this year.

Co-written by Sorrentino and Umberto Contarello, the film also stars Frances McDormand and Judd Hirsch, and has been receiving great reviews since its debut at Cannes last year.

“Cheyenne is a former rock star. At 50, he still dresses ‘Goth’ and lives in Dublin off his royalties. The death of his father, with whom he wasn’t on speaking terms, brings him back to New York. He discovers his father had an obsession: to seek revenge for a humiliation he had suffered. Cheyenne decides to pick up where his father left off, and starts a journey, at his own pace, across America.”

The premise alone, which sees Penn (looking like a replica of The Cure’s Robert Smith) in this drama-comedy seeking his father’s killer, an ex-Nazi war criminal, gives you an idea that it’s going to be pretty different, and the first trailer made that difference look good. Empire now have a great new clip to add to it which only adds to that promise. From both the trailer and this new clip, you get a feeling that the music’s going to be both brilliant and important in this film.

This Must Be The Place is set to be released here in the UK on 6th April, with a release by The Weinstein Company in the US still to be announced.
