Pleasing news coming from theonering.net who always seem to deliver reliable Tolkien Film related stories who say that Neill Blomkamp is being lined up to direct the Hobbit. It is a pretty obvious choice and one I’ve not even thought about but considering the relationship between Blomkamp and Peter Jackson it would be a very wise choice and one I would be very happy with.

Blomkamp of course directed one of the best films of 2009 in District 9 and with Jackson working along side him I feel it could work but I also feel it may be too big of a project for such an inexperienced director so maybe Jackson will take a larger role than he would have done with Del Toro in the chair which is fair compromise when MGM and Warner Brothers want Jackson to do both Hobbit films which he clearly doesn’t want to do.

It should be mentioned that theonering.net state they are not reporting this is definitely happening but they do say they ‘received a spy report that stated it as cold, hard, unsurprising fact’, so make of that what you will.
