Nebraska-UK-Quad-PosterFollowing last year’s critically acclaimed The Descendants, Alexander Payne returns behind the camera for Nebraska, which is understandably being eyed as a strong contender in the Oscar race.

Bruce Dern is outstanding in the lead, and would certainly be worthy of a Best Actor nod come January. And Will Forte’s performance opposite him is every bit as brilliant, and I’d love to see him get recognition for Best Supporting Actor alongside Dern.

The film made its debut at Cannes earlier in the year – you can read our review here – and things have been looking good for it ever since, continuing nicely on the festival circuit. And with the comedy-drama heading into US cinemas this weekend, Paramount has released a new clip over on Yahoo Movies, giving a look at a great little interaction between Forte and some of his on-screen extended family.

After receiving a sweepstakes letter in the mail, a cantankerous father (Bruce Dern) thinks he’s struck it rich, and wrangles his son (Will Forte) into taking a road trip to claim the fortune. Shot in black and white across four states, Nebraska tells the stories of family life in the heartland of America.

Dern and Forte star alongside June Squibb, Bob Odendirk, and Stacy Keach, with some of the film’s funniest moments coming from Tim Driscoll and Devin Ratray, seen with Forte in the new clip below.

Payne is directing from a script penned by Bob Nelson, who makes his feature debut.

Nebraska is released in the US today, November 15th, and will land in the UK a little later on 6th December.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
