It’s Mortal Kombat fever today! Feast your eyes on the both the trailer and the first episode of the new web live-action adaptation of the popular video game series (entitled Mortal Kombat: Legacy).
Produced by Warner Digital, this crossover star’s Star Trek: Voyager’s Jeri Ryan and ex-martial artist-turned-actor Michael Jai White (The Dark Knight, Black Dynamite) in a series of 12-minute sequential episodes.
It would appear that the studio has sunk quite a bit of cash into this venture. The first episode looks impressive and clearly has high production values and a much grittier, real-world (or as close as you can get with this material) vibe to it.
The fact that the series is split into separate parts brings a video game ‘next level’ feel to proceedings. Wonder if this will spawn a whole host of adaptations? It’s possible they may find a more welcoming home online than on the big screen.
