5) Home and Away – Surfer
For many years now Michael Palin has been a televisual globetrotter, circumnavigating the world with a wistful look and an endless desire for discovery. I can heartily recommend hitching a metaphorical ride around the world with the man however there was another reason to bring all this up.
While in Australia Palin happened upon a film crew (not his own) and found himself cameoing in a then-very popular Aussie soap Home and Away. To put this into context it’s like Mick Jagger pulling on a frockcoat and joining the Downton Abbey set for an episode. My memory of the show doesn’t extend much beyond knowing that the two actors with Palin in this clip were regulars and, I think, an item.
This is why I don’t watch soaps – not enough Python.
