Middle Men was picked up in February by Paramount following some positive early festival reviews and now we have the first official trailer. The film tells the semi-true story of how porn became a thriving business on the internet.

The film’s main star is Luke Wilson as the businessman Jack Harris, who helps Wayne (Giovanni Ribisi) and Buck (Gabriel Macht) make a lot of money with porn on the internet.

Luke Wilson has been in some fantastic films (mostly directed by Wes Anderson), some flawed but passable films (Idiocracy) and some truly terrible films (My Super Ex-Girlfriend) and I’ve always wished his career was a bit more successful and his film’s a bit more consistent in terms of quality. A lot of the buzz about Middle Men has been really good so hopefully this film might help get Luke Wilson’s career a bit more on track.

The film looks like it might be good although the tone of the trailer seems a little off but the film’s clearly a mixture of comedy and drama, so hopefully this will come together better in the film.

Official synopsis:

In 1995, everyone had a VCR, music was sold in record stores, and the world-wide-web was a new found discovery. Businessman Jack Harris (Luke Wilson) had the perfect life – a beautiful family and a successful career fixing problem companies. And then he met Wayne Beering (Giovanni Ribisi) and Buck Dolby (Gabriel Macht), two genius but troubled men, who had invented the way adult entertainment is sold over the internet. When Jack agrees to help steer their business, he soon finds himself caught between a 23 year-old porn star and the FBI all the while becoming one of the wealthiest entrepreneurs of his time. Inspired by a true story that proves business is a lot like sex: getting in is easy, pulling out is hard.

The film hits US theatres on the 6th of August. No word yet on a UK release date.
