Mel Gibson is going to the Edge of Darkness this week (our review will be up in a few hours) and he’s looking to his future projects. One being reported today is Cold Warrior, which tells the story of a retired cold war spy coming back for one more mission…I know, sounds awfully familiar. What is perking interest is the fact that the director is none other than Shane Black.

That Gibson would reunite with Black is perhaps a sign that he is stepping further out of the self imposed studio exile, and Universal are surely hoping for the spark which made Lethal Weapon such a hit to return with them. Gibson has recently finished starring with Jodie Foster in the surely-to-be-renamed Beaver, and is looking to team up with Black on Cold Warrior after his shooting his own script How I Spent My Summer Vacation in a few months.

Cold Warrior is expected to shoot in the summer of 2010, Variety has the story here.
