Apple TV has unveiled the first trailer for ‘Mayday,’ an explosive new action-comedy that pairs Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh in an unlikely Cold War adventure. Blending high-octane action with sharp comedy, the film promises to turn the traditional spy thriller on its head when it premieres on Apple TV on September 4, 2026.

The newly released trailer introduces audiences to Lieutenant Troy “Assassin” Kelly (Ryan Reynolds), a fearless U.S. Navy pilot tasked with a top-secret mission deep inside Russian territory during the height of the Cold War. When the operation goes spectacularly wrong, Troy finds himself stranded behind enemy lines with seemingly no way home.

His fortunes change when he crosses paths with Nikolai Ustinov (Kenneth Branagh), a hardened former KGB agent whose unexpected fascination with American culture makes him an unlikely ally. While Troy initially assumes he’s been captured, the pair soon discover that working together may be their only chance of escaping Soviet territory alive. What follows is an action-packed adventure filled with explosive set pieces, witty banter and an unlikely friendship forged under impossible circumstances.

The film reunites audiences with Reynolds in another charismatic leading role, while Branagh brings both gravitas and humour to the eccentric ex-KGB operative. The supporting cast includes Marcin Dorocinski, Maria Bakalova and David Morse.

Behind the camera are Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the filmmaking duo known for delivering crowd-pleasing genre hits including ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ ‘Game Night’ and ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.’
