Matt Damon always said he would never reprise the role of Jason Bourne without Paul Greengrass in the director’s chair, hence why Universal pulled the trigger on underwhelming Bourne without Bourne spinoff The Bourne Legacy starring Jeremy Renner. It was recently revealed that both Damon and Greengrass will indeed reteam for another movie, but fans weren’t sure what to believe after so many rumours!

Well, in case the trades weren’t confirmation enough for you, Damon himself has now confirmed that it the project is indeed moving ahead and has even shed some light on when we should expect to see it.

E! News caught up with Damon and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Ben Affleck recently to talk about their HBO series Project Greenlight , and it was him who let slip the following. “Well, [Damon’s] going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I’ve just completely lost any semblance of physical fitness. So…”

That prompted Damon to add, “Yes, next year. It’ll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. [Director] Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that’s all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes.”

This also confirms reports that Greengrass’ next Bourne has been given the release date of The Bourne Legacy sequel which Justin Lin is/was attached to direct. The status of that one isn’t clear as of right now, but getting Matt Damon back as Bourne likely means that people don’t really care regardless! Thoughts?
