In what is something of a departure for the actress, Malin Akerman takes on the role as the chief antagonist in Brad Peyton’s blockbuster Rampage, and we discussed with the Swedish-Canadian actress what it was about this type of role that appealed to her so greatly.
She also discusses her experiences working with Dwayne Johnson, who plays the lead role in this production, as well as how impressed she has been with director Peyton, and the ability it requires to put something of this nature together. On the same topic, she speaks about how acting in blockbusters like this are so far removed from the work she completed earlier on in her career, and tells us what animal she would most like to see gigantified (not a word, but we’ll run with it anyway).
This leads into a brief love-in for animals, as she tells us why she’s never had any pets, and why dogs are such a special creature.

Global icon Dwayne Johnson headlines the action adventure “Rampage,” directed by Brad Peyton. Johnson stars as primatologist Davis Okoye, a man who keeps people at a distance but shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, incredibly rare albino silverback gorilla who has been in his care since he rescued the young orphan from poachers. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals. As these newly created alpha predators tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with discredited geneticist Kate Caldwell (Naomie Harris) to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.
Rampage is out in cinemas now.
