Cinematic Shakespeare adaptations are a cyclical opportunity for directors and actors alike to press their fingerprints into the rich, timeless tapestry of the Bard’s work.

And what elegant, haunting digits Fassbender, Cotillard and director Justin Kurzel have.

This new trailer for Kurzel’s Macbeth, out in cinemas on the 2nd of October, is a brutal, bloody roar of a promo, with Fassbender in particular bringing an intimidating presence to the titular role.

Each frame of the footage we’ve seen so far is beautifully put together, lit with an angel’s touch and the shuddering violence on display genuinely terrifying. This is undoubtedly one to savour.

Our review from the world premiere in Cannes is here. We loved it.
