Focus Features has unveiled a brand-new trailer for ‘Lorne,’ a revealing documentary portrait of the comedy mastermind behind one of television’s most influential institutions. Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville, the film offers a rare, behind-the-scenes look at Lorne Michaels, the producer whose work helped shape modern comedy and television culture for decades.
Neville, known for acclaimed documentaries including ‘20 Feet from Stardom’ and ‘Won’t You Be My Neighbor?,’ brings his signature storytelling approach to a subject who has spent much of his career behind the curtain. With Lorne, the filmmaker dives deep into the life, career and cultural influence of the man who created and steered the long-running sketch comedy institution ‘Saturday Night Live.’
The newly released trailer teases an intimate and unprecedented portrait of Michaels’ journey, combining exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, rare archival material and candid reflections from some of the most celebrated comedians and writers to emerge from the show.
Among the voices featured in the documentary are comedy heavyweights, including Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph, John Mulaney, Andy Samberg, Conan O’Brien and Chris Rock, who reflect on Michaels’ creative instincts, mentorship and the enduring impact he has had on the comedy landscape.
Across nearly five decades, Michaels transformed Saturday Night Live from an experimental late-night sketch show into a cultural powerhouse and launchpad for generations of comedy stars. The film explores the risks, reinventions and creative collaborations that helped define the show and influence the direction of American comedy.
