To celebrate the release of the new series Schmigadoon!, which is available to stream now on Apple TV+, we sat down with some of the show’s main talents to find out all about this colourful new musical series.
In the series, we follow two doctors, Melissa (Cecily Strong) and Josh (Keegan Michael Key), who go on a backpacking trip in an attempt to patch up their failing relationship, only to find themselves still arguing. They get lost and soon discover a magical town called Schmigadoon, which is perpetually trapped in a Golden Age-style musical, and slowly realize that they cannot leave until they find true love.
Inhabiting the town are Doc Jorge Lopez (Camil), teacher Emma Tate (DeBose), and the preacher’s wife Mildred Layton (Chenoweth), all of whom add to the eclectic mix of personalities in this otherworldly town. We spoke to all three about their roles in the show, why both its lighthearted nature, infectious music, and life lessons are perfect for modern audiences, the joys of singing and dancing, and, of course, filling us into the magical pull of corn pudding.
