The only way a return like this could have worked is by getting all the original cast back, which is exactly what they’ve done! Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Seann William Scott, Mena Suvari, Tara Reid, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nichols, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Shannon Elizabeth, Eugene Levy, Jennifer Coolidge, and the (excellent) John Cho will all be reprising their roles, with 30 Rock’s Katrina Bowden and Heroes’ Dania Ramirez rounding out the new additions to the cast
“In the comedy American Reunion, all the American Pie characters we met a little more than a decade ago are returning to East Great Falls for their high-school reunion. In one long-overdue weekend, they will discover what has changed, who hasn’t and that time and distance can’t break the bonds of friendship. It was summer 1999 when four small-town Michigan boys began a quest to lose their virginity. In the years that have passed, Jim and Michelle married while Kevin and Vicky said goodbye. Oz and Heather grew apart, but Finch still longs for Stifler’s mom. Now these lifelong friends have come home as adults to reminisce about—and get inspired by—the hormonal teens who launched a comedy legend.”
Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, the duo who brought us Harold and Kumar (of course also starring John Cho), look to have done a fantastic job both co-directing and -writing the film, and I can’t wait for this to come to the big screen. I will be in that darkened theatre on day 1.
All that we’ve seen so far suggests – which Hannigan confirms in this new featurette – that this (probably final – but never say never) slice of Pie has a great balance between nostalgia and being a standalone film, so whether you’ve seen all the first three a hundred times before or you’re new to the franchise, this is sure to be one of the best comedies of the year.
American Reunion will be released in the US on 6th April before coming to the UK a month later on 2nd May. I can’t wait. For all the rest of our coverage of the film, you can click here. And if you’d like to see this in HD, you can head over to Apple who had this first.
