Wes Anderson has this ability to lure people back – with an ever-increasing list of the world’s most famous actors who always seem inclined to work with the talented auteur again. So when we interviewed Liev Schreiber, one of the stars of his latest production Isle of Dogs, we asked what it was that is so special about the filmmaker.

Schreiber, who voices the character Spots, also spoke how little time he spent with the rest of this stellar ensemble, which also consists of the likes of Bryan Cranston, Bill Murray and Frances McDormand to name just three (we could go on, believe me). The actor also speaks about the film’s dark undercurrent and how that blends with the more comedic elements, while he gives an eloquent response to our question on the lack of compassion in modern society, a theme that Anderson explores within this indelible animation.

Synopsis

When, by executive decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, 12-year-old Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots. There, with the assistance of a pack of newly-found mongrel friends, he begins an epic journey that will decide the fate and future of the entire Prefecture.

Isle of Dogs is released on March 30th.
