I think it’s safe to say that Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass is a film we’re itching to see. Wall-to-wall violence with the coolest set of superheroes to hit the screen in a long time, our interest has been ignited with a couple of amazing trailers and rampantly positive word of mouth and news has hit today that the premiere will taken place this year, March the 12th, at the SXSW festival.

The decision to open the festival with Vaughn’s adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic book is great news for all involved as it will no doubt contribute to the buzz surrounding this film, SXSW’s announcement sums it up nicely.

The movie tells the story of average teen Dave (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero.

His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, and meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes, including Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) and Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage), and another fledgling superhero, Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). But thanks to the scheming of a local mob boss Frank D’Amico (Mark Strong), that new alliance will be put to the test.

Mashing up bone-cracking action, dark comedy and razor sharp dialogue,Kick-Ass is a raucous thrill ride you won’t want to miss!

Seriously – could the anticipation for this film be any higher? This is one of our most anticipated films for 2010 and if you’re lucky enough to be able to attend SXSW, what are you waiting for?

Kick-Ass is released in the US a month later on the 16th of April, you can read all of our coverage here.
