As puzzling as a third film of the Riddick franchise heading into production seems (the decidedly STV titled, The Chronicles of Riddick: Dead Man Stalking) Bloody Disgusting bring news that co-star from the previous film, Karl Urban, is also heading back to the world of the Necromongers.

Reprising his role of the villainous Commander Vaako, Urban is set to return alongside main star Vin Diesel and director of the previous two instalments, David Twohy.

Fast & Furious 5’s surprise success has undoubtedly reinvigorated Diesel’s stock in Hollywood, and enabled him to get this film off the ground, but Urban is a different story. Winning plaudits for his role of Bones in 2009’s much-praised Star Trek reboot, and due to grace cinema screens next autumn as the lead in another high-profile sci-fi feature (Dredd), Urban is almost A-list material, making his return here a little confusing.

Maybe a promise of sharing top billing alongside Vin tipped the scales?
