Rian Johnson’s time-slapping sui/homicide thriller Looper is having its premiere in a week’s time over at Toronto and there’s a huge deal of anticipation for the director’s third film and first foray in sci-fi.

The Brothers Bloom, Johnson’s second film, still lingers in the mind and remains one of my favourite films of the last ten years. If you’ve not seen it, remedy that as soon as you legally can. There’s an elegance to the director’s storytelling (look back even further to his first film, Brick, to see a great example of the man working in, and then transcending, genre boundaries) and once you throw in the high concept of time travelling assassinations we’re set for an exciting time.
