In a case of “if I first you don’t succeed, try, try again”, The Hangover helmer Todd Phillips is developing a biopic of legendary ‘live fast, die young’ Saturday Night Live comedian John Belushi, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

A biopic has previously been made of Belushi’s life was made in the late eighties starring a very young Michael Chiklis. Based on the infamous “unauthorised” biography which caused a stir when it was first released (it’s a fascinating, if lurid, read), the film didn’t capture the character of Belushi at all, despite The Shield actor’s best efforts.

Due to the success of The Hangover (worldwide gross $467.4 million) Phillips has pretty much free rein to make any film he chooses and this is definitely an interesting and edgy project (Belushi life was colourful to say the least!) and hopefully the chance to see a more honest representation of the actor’s life and his demons.

On the casting front, surely The Hangover’s Zach Galifianakis is a shoo-in for the lead role. What do you think?
