It took a little longer than with Daredevil, but Netflix has finally renewed Jessica Jones for a second season. The first was met with overwhelmingly positive reviews, and Marvel fans have been waiting on tenterhooks ever since it debuted last November for this news.

Melissa Rosenberg will be returning as showrunner, and while an air date hasn’t been announced just yet, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos revealed that it ultimately depends on when The Defenders – an event series uniting Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist – ends up coming together. Netflix already changed their plans by giving Daredevil a second season because it was such a hit, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

As for the chances of more than two of these shows airing a year, he added: “It’s possible, right now, these are produced at the scale of a major film, so they’re long production times and long post times. In some cases we have character crossover, which makes it more difficult to manage production in a way to jam two or three in. It’s not the goal, certainly, to put more than one or two out a year.” However, will they really stick to that moving forward?

We’re getting Daredevil and Luke Cage this year, but will they not get follow-up seasons in 2017 so that Iron Fist and Jessica Jones season two can air? Just like Marvel Studios has upped the number of films they release years for Phase 3, Netflix may have to do the same!

It was recently revealed that The Punisher is getting a spinoff. Find details on that right here.
