We’ll first meet Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in Daredevil season two this March, but it has been revealed today that Marvel and Netflix are already developing a spinoff starring the character. Early word from those lucky enough to have seen the first two episodes has pointed to The Walking Dead alum stealing the show as Frank Castle, and so the online streaming service are clearly confident that the talented actor can hold his own in a spinoff.

The Punisher has starred in a string of failed big screen adaptations, and fans have been hoping for a while now that Marvel would give him another chance on the small screen.

Fox were developing a show starring the vigilante a few years ago, but that would have turned him into a police officer and essentially made his adventures into a procedural, so the fact that he’s now firmly in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is obviously very good news!

The Punisher follows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders, so Marvel’s presence on Netflix will clearly continue being a significant one. It remains to be seen if Elektra (another character being introduced in season two of Daredevil) will end up also getting her own series, but this is a great start, and more details will hopefully follow.
