This piece of news is not a huge surprise for those following the movement of the new Muppet movie from the page to the screen, as Jason Segel, the man revealed today by THR to be the human lead in the film, wrote the script with Nicholas Stoller.

The last time I checked this film was still called The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time, and Segel is clearly invested in bringing the Muppets back to their ever loving audience (is there a collective term for Muppet fans? The Kermit-ted perhaps? Fozzie Bear should sue…), and I think he’ll be a great lead in a film that I’m looking forward to more and more as time goes on.

Conchords man James Bobin is set to direct and the script is said to revolve around one man’s quest to reunite the retired Muppets to save a down and out TV studio. I enjoyed Segel’s work in I Love You, Man and Knocked Up, and I’m hoping that the script he’s written will be full of the subversive, random elements which made watching the Muppets so much fun.
