Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko) is attached to star in indie drama Mississippi Grand, THR has reported.

The latest project from directors Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, the duo responsible for Half Nelson and It’s Kind of a Funny Story, Mississippi Grand centers on a young gambling addict (Gyllenhaal) who sets off on a road trip with debt-ridden friend.

Electric City Entertainment will produce alongside former Paramount Pictures president John Lesher.

The film will be made for around $10m, with shooting due to commence later in the year once the other roles have been cast.

Gyllenhaal will next be seen in End of Watch, due for release in the UK on November 23.
