I guess I have to admit here and now that I’ve never read any of the Harry Potter books (please forgive me muggles!) but I have seen all of the movies. I can appreciate that the books hold vast amounts more information that gives back-story and detail that is never even mentioned in any of the movies. But after my wife has made me watch the films now so many times, I really have begun to appreciate how each story works and moulds into the next when I never really knew it while watching them the first time round.

Who knows how they got it but Of The Phoenix (via /Film) have managed to acquire the original timeline spreadsheet that that J.K. Rowling drew while she was writing the fifth book in the Potter series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. In the spreadsheet, you can clearly see where Rowling has marked out the year divided each columns into chapter number / title and then plotted out the main storyline and subplots.

I’ve never written a novel and probably never will but when you’re talking about a series of books where everything is linked into everything else, it must be so complicated and this scrappy scanned piece of paper shows just how Rowling was able to create the biggest book and movie franchise the world has ever seen!

This images comes just a couple of days after the latest movie to be released November 19th, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 will NOT be converted into 3D as originally thought. Part 2 which will be with us July 16th next year, will be in 3D.
