New Line and True Detective helmer Cary Fukunaga have found their It, and it’s an unexpected casting decision to say the least. We’re the Millers star Will Poulter is said to be in talks for the role which was made famous not only by Stephen King’s lengthy novel, but also Tim Curry in the 1991 classic miniseries.

It is being split into two movies, and Fukunaga will direct the adaptation which will shoot back to back. The filmmaker also wrote the screenplay alongside Chase Palmer. Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg.

It follows a group of outcast kids who come together over summer break to take on the monster that’s haunting their town, battling their own personal monsters in the process. The story then shifts to them as adults as they all return to their home town to battle the mysterious clown who haunted them as children.

Will Poulter

Poulter is an interesting choice for Pennywise the Clown, especially as the studio apparently considered older actors like Mark Rylance and Ben Mendelsohn for the role. However, they ultimately decided to go with someone younger, and Poulter reportedly blew Fukunaga away with a very impressive audition.

Playing Pennywise in It might sound like a huge departure for the comedic actor, but early buzz surrounding his performance in The Revenant alongside Leonardo DiCaprio is said to be very good, so this has potential!
