And here we go again…

You’ll remember the short list which circulated around the internet a couple of weeks ago, naming British actor Jamie Bell among the select few candidates rumoured to be on Sony and director Marc Webb’s radar.

And it was with a sense of deja-vu that we launched into the next round of casting chinese whispers, but today Rich Johnston from the ever excellent Bleeding Cool threw out the news that sources tell him that Jamie Bell is close to signing with Sony.

Personally I’d prefer to see Andrew Garfield, but Jamie Bell is a good second choice, and he’s already doing the comic book thing with Messrs Jackson and Spielberg in Tintin, so his name will mean more than ‘that kid from Billy Elliot’ to Spidey fans.

Agree or not with Sony’s plans, and the whole High School reboot, hiring Marc Webb seems like a step in the right direction but the key decision will be the casting of Peter Parker.

So, while there’s no comment from Sony the intriguing possibility that Bell will be the new Spider-Man is now one step closer to being confirmed. Sounds like a good choice to me. At least we know he can dance…
