Hot off the heels of his starring role in ‘The Suicide Squad’, Idris Elba has landed himself the voice role of Knuckles in the upcoming ‘Sonic The Hedgehog’ sequel.

Elba confirmed his role via his social channels with an image of Knuckles’ fist.

Jeff Fowler returns to direct, with Ben Schwartz returning to voice Sonic. James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Shemar Moore and Jim Carrey also star in the live-action elements of the film.

Pat Casey & Josh Miller and John Whittington penned the script. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, Toru Nakahara, Hitoshi Okuno are producing.

Knuckles appeared as an antagonist in the 1994 Sega video game ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3,’ tricked by the evil Doctor Robotnik into thinking that Sonic is his enemy; he became a playable character in a follow-up game ‘Sonic and Knuckles’.

Elba is no stranger to voicing a character or two, having featured in ‘Finding Dory’ and ‘Zootopia,’ and animation/live-action hybrid ‘The Jungle Book.’ He can currently be seen as Bloodsport in James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad.
