With Christian Bale and Andrew Garfield donning the tights for Batman and Spider-Man respectively it seem appropriate that another Brit has been picked to pull on the cape of the Man of Steel and more details are emerging about how Zack Snyder found his man in Henry Cavill.

In the latest edition of Entertainment Weekly there is an interview with the pair who reveal some interesting facts about the audition process,

Cavill’s audition, which included shooting a screen test wearing a replica of Christopher Reeve’s once impressive, now dated Superman suit. “If you can put on that suit and pull it off,” says Snyder, ‘that’s an awesome achievement.”

As an assistant helped to him put on the Super-suit, Cavill recalls: “All I could think was: Oh, god. They’re going to look at me and go ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance.’ The actor inside me was going: You’re not ready! You’re not ready!” Snyder saw something — or rather someone — different. “He walked out, and no one laughed,” says the director. “Other actors put that suit on, and it’s a joke, even if they’re great actors.

Henry put it on, and he exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence that just made me go ‘Wow.’ Okay: This was Superman.’”

What I’m hoping for is some more details about the inspiration for the team of Snyder and Producer Christopher Nolan – what type of Superman will we see, and how it will differ from Brandon Routh’s performance for Bryan Singer.

The picture in question is not the ‘first picture of Cavill as Superman’ as such, anyone can be photographed wearing a Superman t-shirt – not until the cape comes out do we call it. Until that day, and the inevitable fanboy faceoff, let’s just say this is our first look at the man who will be Supes.

Not a bird, not a plane – it was Cinematical who told us.
