It was recently revealed that plans to bring back Colin Firth in Kingsman: The Secret Service 2 have been scrapped, but after nabbing Julianne Moore as the movie’s villain, Matthew Vaughn’s highly anticipated sequel has made another impressive casting addition today.

That is X-Men star and Oscar winning actress Halle Berry. She’s being eyed to take on the role of the head of the CIA, something which makes perfect sense what with the action moving to the US for the follow-up. Taron Egerton has already been confirmed as returning, and we already know that Mark Strong is going to be joining him (see below).

Mark Strong updates on Kingsman 2 – Eggsy & Merlin to team up in America

Based on Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons’ comic book of the same name, Kingsman: The Secret Service was an unexpected hit last year, grossing over $415 million worldwide.

Kingsman 2 marks Vaughn’s first sequel, and the movie is expected to start shooting later this year for a June 16th, 2017 release. A summer release for an R-Rated action movie may seem strange, but after the success of the first instalment and Deadpool, Fox have found a nice little niche for themselves here, and it will be interesting to see how this one turns out.
