‘Lion’ and ‘Mary Magdalene’ filmmaker Garth Davis has signed up to helm the third instalment in the ‘Tron’ franchise at Disney.

Davis has been joined by Jared Leto, on the project in an undisclosed role. Taking to Instagram Leto stated how thrilled he was to be a part of the project.

“I’m struck with such gratitude for the opportunity to bring this movie to life, especially as both the original video game and the film affected me so deeply as a young child, “The fact that I get to be a part of this new chapter is mind-blowing.”

Jesse Wigutow wrote the most recent draft of the script which is rumoured not to be a direct sequel to the 2010 offering ‘TRON: Legacy’. Justin Springer and Emma Ludbrook will produce alongside Leto.

‘Tron 3’ was originally greenlit in 2015 but those plans fell through just a few months later.
