Warner Bros. recently announced the release dates for a number of movies based on DC Comics properties, but that list sadly didn’t include any titles! We so know that Zack Snyder’s Justice League will likely be one of them, while Dwayne Johnson will star in Shazam and Aquaman is currently being developed.

Well, we can now add the Suicide Squad to those mentioned above as a variety of sites are reporting this evening that David Ayer (who helmed End of Watch and the upcoming World War II tank drama Fury starring Brad Pitt) is circling the project and happens to also be Warner Bros.’ top choice to take charge of the movie.

Like the comics, the movie will focus on a team of supervillains who are given a chance to shave years from their prison sentences by taking part in missions where the chances of their survival are slim (hence why they’re called the Suicide Squad). While A-List villains like The Joker and Lex Luthor aren’t part of the team, the roster has been made up of great bad guys like Deadshot, Deathstroke and Harley Quinn.

If these guys sound familiar, it’s because they’ve been heavily featured in the television series Arrow.

Dan Lin is producing the the movie from a script by Justin Marks. Suicide Squad is essentially everything that Sony’s planned The Amazing Spider-Man spin-off Sinister Six should be, but the difference is that this approach to a movie focusing on a team of villains actually makes a lot more sense!
