Pete Travis’ Dredd 3D is only a few weeks away from its big screen release, and everything we’ve seen so far suggests it’s going to be an awesome ride.

Karl Urban takes the lead as the eponymous Judge Dredd, alongside Olivia Thirlby as Judge Anderson and Lena Headey as the antagonist, Ma-Ma.

After last week’s great new featurette, interviewing some of the leading players behind and in front of the camera, Lionsgate have released a brilliant first TV spot, giving us an awesome thirty-second tease.

“DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.”

Travis is directing from a script by the great Alex Garland (28 Days Later, The Beach), with Domhnall Gleeson, Wood Harris, and Jason Cope completing the supporting cast.

Garland has already spoken of the possibility of turning the film into a trilogy, setting the US box office number at $50m. for that to turn into a reality, so if you want to see more of Urban as Dredd, be sure to see it as soon as possible when it hits next month.

Dredd 3D will be released on 7th September here in the UK, followed by a 21st September release in the US. Early reviews have been awesome, and we can’t wait to see how it unfolds. For now, here’s the great first TV spot, set to the tune of Skrillex’s remix of La Roux’s In for the Kill. Enjoy.
