After working together in The Dark Knight Rises (or should that be working against each other?), Tom Hardy and Gary are set to reunite for Child 44, the upcoming thriller from Safe House director Daniel Espinosa.

Child 44 is based on the 2008 book and first novel in Tom Rob Smith’s trilogy about a disgraced MGB agent Leo Demidov, who investigates a series of horrific child murders during Joseph Stalin’s reign of the Soviet Union. Should the adaptation succeed, you have to imagine that this could be the first in a series of films.

The first trailer and poster have been released today, and you can check out those and the synopsis below!

Child 44 Poster

A politically-charged serial killer thriller set in 1953 Soviet Russia, CHILD 44 chronicles the crisis of conscience for secret police agent Leo Demidov (Tom Hardy), who loses status, power and home when he refuses to denounce his own wife, Raisa (Noomi Rapace), as a traitor. Exiled from Moscow to a grim provincial outpost, Leo and Raisa join forces with General Mikhail Nesterov (Gary Oldman) to track down a serial killer who preys on young boys. Their quest for justice threatens a system-wide cover-up enforced by Leo’s psychopathic rival Vasili (Joel Kinnaman), who insists “There is no crime in Paradise.”

That’s an impressive cast, and Child 44 is currently set to be released on April 17th, later this year.
